Finance Manager – Legal Firm
Brisbane City | 5 days per week (office-based)
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced finance manager (5–10 years experience) who wants to grow into a CFO role—and understands that progression comes from first owning the fundamentals completely.
This is a 5 day per week role, designed for an experienced financial manager who can take full ownership of the finance/admin/accounting function.
You will work directly with an experienced Financial Controller, receiving hands-on mentorship, while taking full responsibility for the day-to-day finance function. The firm is in the process of hiring a part time junior accountant who will report directly to you.
Salary Range $130,000 to $150,000 depending on experience.
What You Will Start With
- End-to-end accounts payable and receivable, including active debtor management & billing supervision of lawyers and support staff
- Processing payroll
- Month-end close: journals, accruals, account reconciliations and balance sheet integrity checks
- Trust accounting exposure and instruction on regulatory framework
Full control at the transactional level is non-negotiable—accuracy, timeliness, and ownership are critical.
What You Will Grow Into
Progression to CFO through consistent control of the fundamentals, supported by direct mentorship. From there, you will take on:
- Monthly management reporting with clear commentary
- Cash flow visibility and forecasting
- KPI tracking (WIP, debtors, working capital)
- Partner-level financial insights
- Oversight of finance processes and staffing of the finance function
About You
- 5–10 years accounting experience
- CA qualified
- CA qualification must be held at the time of application
- Strong ownership mindset—you take responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks
- Detail-oriented and comfortable being hands-on
- Expert level Power Query proficiency is essential
- Clear communicator, able to work effectively with non-finance stakeholders
- Prepared to be the in house expert on the soon to be implemented firm practice software
- Professional services experience is advantageous, not essential
- Current Australian work authorisation is required at the time of application
